A Dhaka court has fixed March 22 for the next testimony in the sensational Sagira Morshed murder case in the capital’s Siddheswari.
Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 judge Rafiqul Islam fixed the date on Wednesday.
Sagira Morshed’s brother Dr Shamim Aka Newaz was scheduled to testify at the court on March 22.  But two lawyers of the accused filed a petition seeking time as they were sick.
It may be mentioned that Sagira Morshed, 34, was gunned down by unidentified muggers in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital's Bailey Road on July 25, 1989 when she went there to bring her daughter.
Sagira's husband Salam Chowdhury filed the case on that day with Ramna Police Station against unidentified persons. A rickshaw-puller, who was present at the crime scene, identified two of the killers, but police had filed the initial charge sheet against one Mantu.
On January 17, 2020, PBI inspector Rafiqul Islam filed a 1,309-page chargesheet against four people with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court. Then on March 9 of the same year, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes accepted the chargesheet.
