Charge hearing against ex-Jubo League leader Samrat deferred

A Dhaka court has deferred the date for charge hearing against Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, expelled Juba League leader and the alleged casino kingpin, in a graft case to May 15.

The case was set to be heard in the court of Judge-in-Ccharge Monir Kamal of the Special Judge’s Court-6 today, Sunday. But Samrat’s lawyer sought time and the court set the new date for charge hearing.

ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam, also Investigation Officer of the case, filed the corruption case on the allegation of acquiring illegal wealth worth about Tk 2,94,80,087 on November 12, 2019.

After investigating the case, the ACC Deputy Director submitted the charge sheet to the court against Samrat on November 26, 2020. - Special Correspondent
