Regent's Shahed gets 6-month bail in graft case

Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, who was earlier jailed for three years in a graft case, has secured six-month bail.



Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, who was earlier jailed for three years in a graft case, has secured six-month bail.
A bench of Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman granted the bail on Thursday.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam confirmed this.
A court in Dhaka on August 21 sentenced Shahed Karim to three years' jail term in the case. In the verdict, the court fined Tk 1 lakh to Shahed which was paid within 60 working days. After that, Shahed appealed to the court.
On September 4, the High Court accepted the appeal for hearing.
On March 1, 2021, the anti-graft body filed the case against Shahed for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 1.69 crore. The court framed charges against Shahed on April 17 last year.
A total of 10 witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
Shahed was arrested on July 15, 2020, at Debhata in Satkhira while he was trying to flee the country. Later, more than 36 cases, including an arms case, were filed against him with police stations across the country.
He was sentenced for life in the arms case on September 28, 2020.
