Pro-BNP lawyers denied permission to sue 9 policemen

A Dhaka court today rejected a petition seeking permission to file a case against nine police members over an alleged attack on the BNP-backed lawyers’ march in the capital.

Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman of Dhaka CMM Court turned down the plea on Wednesday. 

Earlier, Advocate Md Mohsin Mia lodged the plea to sue Police’s Kotwali Zone

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Muhit Kabir Serniabat, Lalbagh Zone ADC Shahidul, Kotwali Police Station officer in-charge Shahinur Rahman, OC (operations) Nazmul Haque, OC (investigation) Mehidy Hasan, sub-inspector Shahabuddin Hawlader, and constables Mahbub Alam, Abdur Rashid and Ramzan Molla.

The petition to file the case said The United Lawyers’ Front arranged a march from in front of Dhaka Bar Association on September 12 demanding voting rights, restoration of democracy and release of BNP chief Khaleda Zia.

Police obstructed the march on the road near CMM Court, scolded and misbehaved with the lawyers.

Some people in jeans pants and T-shirts started beating women lawyers in front of the program when they wanted to know the reasons for the police obstruction, leaving several injured.

Then, police attacked male lawyers when they advanced from behind, leaving several senior lawyers hurt. - Special Correspondent
