4 get death penalty in Munshiganj murder case

Munshiganj Additional District and Sessions-2 Judge Khaleda Yeasmin Urmi delivered the verdict.



A court in Munshiganj on Wednesday sentenced four people to death for killing an autorickshaw driver to rob his vehicle at Louhajang upazila in the district in 29 September, 2020.

The court also awarded other accused in the case to several terms of imprisonment, and acquitted two others as the allegation against them was not proven.

The death convict are Rubel Islam Noyon, 33, Mohammad Rajel, 28, Akram Molla, 25, and Hasan Sheikh, 25. Meanwhile, three other accused were awarded to two years imprisonment each.

According to the case statement, the death convicts hacked the victim Ashraful Islam and rob his autorickshaw from Goalimandra area under the upazila on September 29, 2023 while he was riding his autorickshaw. Ashraful was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.

Later on September 30, the victim's father Rafiqul Islam lodged a murder case with Louhajang Police Station accusing nine people.

Following the case, police arrested the accused and sent them to jail. Among them, three convicts gave confessional statement before the court under Section 164.

After hearing 13 witnesses and examining evidences, the court delivered the verdict in presence of the convict.

Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Sirajul Islam Paltu confirmed the information.
