Partho remanded again, this time for 3 days in Setu Bhaban case

Dhaka, July 30 - A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), on a three-day remand in a case filed over vandalising and setting fire to the Setu Bhaban in Dhaka on 18 July.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam also placed two other accused in the case - Titumir College student Md Nazmus Sakib and Dhaka International University student Tawhidul Ibnul Badar Safwan Islam, on 4-day remand each.

Earlier, Partho was produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer upon completion of five-day remand in first phase, said the case’s Investigation Officer Abu Sayeed Mia, inspector of Detective Branch’s Cantonment Zone.

Moreover, a 10-day remand was sought for accused Sakib and Safwan each on Tuesday.

Though the lawyers representing the accused appealed for rejecting the remand prayer, the state side opposed it, said Shah Alam, an official of the general registration section under Banani police station.

Andaleeve was arrested around 1am on 25 July from his residence in the capital's Gulshan.

On July 18, some 250 to 300 people stormed Setu Bhaban and ransacked valuables worth Tk 300 crore during the ‘Complete Shutdown’ called by the protesting students.

On the same day, the Bhaban’s caretaker Rabiul Islam filed a case against some people with Banani police station.-UNB
