Rangpur, Sept 10 - A Rangpur court on Tuesday put two police officers, arrested over the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed, on a 4-day remand each.

The accused officers are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md. Amir Ali and Constable Sujon Chandra Roy.

Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman passed the order after a hearing.

Advocate Rokonuzzaman Rokon, plaintiff’s lawyer, confirmed that a five-day remand was initially sought for the two policemen, but the court granted four-day remand after the hearing.

On August 3, these two policemen were dismissed.

Abu Sayed, a 12th batch student of Begum Rokeya University's English Department, was killed in the anti-discrimination student movement on July 16, in the afternoon - thus becoming the first student killed in police firing in the recent movement.

They were handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation on Monday after  arrest for legal action based on the requisition of the investigating officer of the case.

Earlier, Sayed’s elder brother Ramzan Ali filed a murder case against 17 people at Tajhat Police Station. - UNB
