Court decision

Dhaka, Sept 12 - A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against former BASIC Bank Chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu and four of his family members in connection with a corruption case involving allegations of concealing Tk 94.75 lakh and evading Tk 8.53 lakh in taxes.

The warrant was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Joglul Hossain after the court accepted the charge sheet in the case, according to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam.

The case was originally filed by ACC Deputy Director Nurul Huda on October 3, 2023, with ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Mohammad Neyamul Ahsan Gazi submitting the charge sheet to the court on June 5 of this year.

The arrest warrant extends to Bacchu’s wife, Shirin Aktar, his brother, Sheikh Shariar Panna, and his two sons, Sheikh Rafa Hye and Sheikh Shabid Hye.

Previously, on November 15 of last year, the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's Court ordered the confiscation of assets belonging to Bacchu and his family members in connection with the BASIC Bank scandal. - UNB
