Two Newly Appointed SC Judges Take Oath

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub, the two newly appointed judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, took their oaths this morning in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge.


Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath at 10:30 am. The event was attended by Supreme Court judges from both divisions, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and other senior legal figures. The ceremony was conducted by Supreme Court Registrar General Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.

On March 24, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed the two High Court judges as Justices of the Appellate Division, as per Article 95(1) of the Constitution. Their appointment takes effect from the day of their oath.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman
Born on March 1, 1959, Justice Asaduzzaman holds an LLB (Hons) and LLM from Rajshahi University. He began his legal career in 1983 and was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court in 2003, becoming a permanent Judge in 2005. He was elevated to the Appellate Division on March 25, 2025. Justice Asaduzzaman has participated in international forums, including the Commonwealth Secretariat South Asian Judges Regional Forum in Sri Lanka in 2011 and visits to countries such as India, Nepal, and China.

Justice Farah Mahbub
Born on May 27, 1966, Justice Mahbub earned her LL.B. (Hons) and LL.M. from the University of Dhaka. She was enrolled as an Advocate in 1992 and became a High Court Judge in 2004. She was appointed to the Appellate Division on March 25, 2025. Justice Mahbub participated in an international conference in South Korea in 2010 and has visited countries such as India, Pakistan, and Germany.
