Dhaka, July 24 – A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque from his residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Thursday morning.

Confirming the development, Rabiul Islam Bhuiyan, Joint Commissioner (North) of DB Police, told UNB that the former chief justice was picked up earlier in the day.

He, however, did not disclose the reason behind the detention or provide details of the ongoing investigation.

“We will share more information once the details are available,” said the DB official.

Justice Khairul Haque, the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh, is known for his controversial verdicts on constitutional matters.
