Chankharpul Six-Murder Verdict Deferred to Jan 26

The verdict in the crimes against humanity case over the killing of six people in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area during the July uprising was deferred on Tuesday, with the court setting 26 January as the new date for judgment.
A three-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, announced the decision around 11:30am. Prosecutors said the verdict was postponed as the judgment has yet to be finalised.
The tribunal had earlier scheduled the verdict for 20 January after both the prosecution and defence completed their arguments.
Charges were framed against eight accused on 14 July, and the trial formally began following the order.
According to case records, police opened fire on a peaceful student protest in the Chankharpul area on 5 August 2024. Six people — Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Junaid, Md Yakub, Md Rakib Howlader, Md Ismamul Haque and Manik Mia Shahrik — were killed in the incident, while several others were injured.
