The landmark was achieved during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) match, where the left-arm seamer—fondly known as “The Fizz”—claimed two wickets against Multan Sultans. His figures of 2 for 37 played a key role in Lahore Qalandars securing a 20-run victory.
With this performance, Mustafizur’s T20 wicket tally rose to 416, surpassing his long-time idol Mohammad Amir, who previously held the record with 414 wickets from 356 matches. Notably, Mustafizur reached the milestone in just 325 matches, underlining his efficiency and impact in the shortest format.
Earlier in the tournament, he had already moved into second place by overtaking another Pakistan left-arm pacer, Wahab Riaz, who has 413 wickets.
Despite losing the top spot, Amir remains in contention as he continues to represent Rawalpindi in the PSL. So far this season, the 33-year-old has taken two wickets in two matches, while Mustafizur has picked up four in three games—indicating the race is far from over.
On the international stage, Mustafizur has also been a standout performer. Of his 416 T20 wickets, 158 have come in T20 Internationals—the highest by any Bangladeshi bowler. He achieved this feat in September last year, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan.
However, Shakib still leads in overall recognized T20 wickets among Bangladeshi players, with 507. With fewer recent appearances from the veteran all-rounder, that lead could soon come under threat as Mustafizur continues his upward trajectory.
Globally, Mustafizur currently ranks seventh in total T20 wickets. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan tops the list with an impressive 703 wickets.
