Anamul replaces injured Shakib for Tigers' final WC game

Cricket 2023-11-07, 10:42pm

DhakaNov - Anamul Haque Bijoy was called up as the replacement for captain Shakib Al Hasan who was ruled out of the side's final World Cup game against Australia in Pune on November 11.

The event technical committee of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Anamul Haque Bijoy as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan in the Bangladesh squad, the ICC confirmed in a statement.

Shakib fractured the index finger of his lefthand during Bangladesh's match against Sri Lanka yesterday.

The world's number one all-rounder, scored 82 off 65 balls to guide the side to a three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. He had earlier taken two wickets for 57 runs in a player-of-the-match performance.
Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan informed that he received painkillers and wore a strap on his injured finger while playing the match-winning knock against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh have already been out of the semifinal race after winning just two matches. But with ICC Champions Trophy at stake, the last match is crucial for them.

Although Anamul was called up, it is highly unlikely that he would find any place in the squad's first XI.
