Bangladesh successfully defended a modest total of 129, securing a 27-run victory over the West Indies in the second T20I at Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent on Wednesday. The win gave Bangladesh a 2-0 lead in the series, sealing their first-ever T20 series victory on West Indian soil.

This was Bangladesh's lowest total ever successfully defended in a T20I against the West Indies, a remarkable achievement considering the challenging conditions.

The bowlers, led by a fiery Taskin Ahmed, exploited a pitch that offered consistent assistance to both pace and spin. Taskin made an immediate impact, striking twice in his opening over, while Mahedi Hasan followed up with a timely breakthrough, leaving the hosts in early trouble during the Powerplay.

With the West Indies reeling at 29 for 4, Bangladesh’s pacers continued to dominate, and Rishad Hossain’s two wickets in the 17th over brought the visitors closer to victory. Taskin sealed the win, dismissing Akeal Hosein for 32, and finished with outstanding figures of 3 for 16. Tanzim Sakib, Mahedi, and Rishad all played vital supporting roles, each claiming two wickets.

Earlier, Bangladesh's batting performance had been far from dominant. Opting to bat first, they struggled against a disciplined West Indies spin attack, managing only 129 for 7 in their 20 overs. West Indies captain Rovman Powell's decision to bowl first paid off as spinners Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase put Bangladesh on the back foot early, reducing them to 29 for 2 in the Powerplay.

Shamim Hossain, however, provided crucial late resistance with an explosive 35 not out from just 17 balls, including two fours and two sixes. His 41-run partnership with Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who remained unbeaten on 9, helped Bangladesh reach a competitive total despite the early setbacks.

The top order, including reshuffled openers Soumya Sarkar (11) and Litton Kumer Das (3), failed to fire. Mehidy Hasan contributed a steady 26 off 25 balls, but his dismissal in the 10th over further stalled Bangladesh's progress.

Akeal Hosein was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, conceding just 16 runs from his four overs, while Gudakesh Motie claimed 2 for 25.

Despite the modest total, Bangladesh's bowlers held firm, and the West Indies were never able to build any significant partnerships, falling short in their chase. With the 2-0 series lead, Bangladesh will look to complete a historic whitewash in the final match.
