India’s Star Bumrah Hospitalized for Scans During 5th Test
India’s star bowler and newly appointed captain, Jasprit Bumrah, has been taken to a hospital for scans on an undisclosed injury during the second day of the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Bumrah, who is standing in for the rested Rohit Sharma as captain for this match, was seen leaving the SCG in a car about an hour after lunch on Saturday. The team has not yet confirmed the nature of the injury or whether the 31-year-old will return to bowl in the ongoing match.
The bowler had appeared unimpeded during the first session, claiming the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne to add to his dismissal of Usman Khawaja in the final over of Friday’s play.
Bumrah has been in stellar form throughout the series, amassing 32 wickets—the most by an Indian bowler in a single series in Australia—surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi's record of 31 wickets in the 1977-78 series.
With Bumrah unavailable, veteran Virat Kohli assumed the captaincy for India in his absence.
