Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first in their Champions Trophy opener against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today.

The Tigers’ lineup includes three pacers—Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman—and two spinners—Rishad Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Miraz. However, experienced batter Mahmudullah Riyad is absent from the squad due to a knock. Additionally, young pace sensation Nahid Rana, who had generated considerable pre-match buzz, is not in the starting XI.

“We’d like to bat first. The pitch looks good, and we want to put runs on the board. The boys are confident after some good practice,” said Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto at the toss.

India, too, seemed content with the toss outcome, with captain Rohit Sharma noting he would have preferred to field first.

India, known for their spin-heavy squad in this tournament, have included three spinners—Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav—alongside three pacers—Mohammad Shami, Harshit Rana, and Hardik Pandya.

India also set an unwanted record today, becoming the team with the joint-most consecutive ODI toss losses, tied with the Netherlands at 11.
