We need to make some changes as batting unit: Shanto

Dhaka, 25 Feb —Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto insisted on making some changes as batting unit in a bid to stop the perpetual failure.

He said the repeated failure as batting unit ruined the good job of the bowlers,
keeping them win-less in many matches, which they should win.

“It's very disappointing as a captain and I think if you look at our bowling unit
the last couple of years, we did a great job and we have some quality fast
bowlers and spinners,” Shanto said after the match against New Zealand,
which they lost by five wickets to make an early exit from the Champions
Trophy.

Bangladesh also lost the first match against India by six wickets, paying the
price of the batting debacle.

“We always wanted a wrist spinner, and now we have got one wrist spinner (in
Rishad Hossain) as well,” he said,

I think as a batting group and the fielding side we need to improve a lot and I
said a lot of times that we need to improve a lot as a batting unit, but we did
same mistakes over and over, the captain added.

Therefore a complete overhaul in batting is imperative, Shanto said.
“We have to really, really focus on how we want to improve our batting. I
hope after this tournament we will make some changes as a batting unit and
think in a different way and then improve and try to improve our batting,” he
added.

Shanto said the bowlers did their best in their two matches of the Champions
Trophy but it is always difficult to defend when the batters give them a
moderate in placid deck.

“I think as a bowling unit we started very well, but on a wicket like this they
(New Zealand) batted really well,” he remarked.

I think the bowlers did a great job. I can't expect more from the bowlers. I'm
happy with the bowling unit, the way they bowled, Shanto further said.

Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in their last match of the Champions Trophy
on Thursday. With Pakistan already making exit like Bangladesh, the match
turned out to be inconsequential one.

Nevertheless, Shanto wants to give their best effort to win the match.
“We try to win the matches and we try to give our 100 percent to win the
matches,” he said, adding that they need to execute their plans properly to end
on a high.

“It's another game and (we’re) playing for the country, it's always a matter of
pride for us,” he argued.

Shanto hoped that the cricketers will come all guns blazing in the match, “I
hope the boys will do something special for the crowd and for us as well. I
hope we will have a good match.”
