Dhaka, 2 Oct—The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to set up emergency medical services at all cricket grounds in the country.

The CWAB’s request came in the wake of recent death incidents on the cricket ground.

Barishal Division physio Hasan Ahmed was the latest to pass away after cardiac arrest during his side’s National Cricket League (NCL) match against Khulna at Khulna Divisional Stadium.

“Many cricket grounds are far away from hospitals. Therefore, it is very important to have an ambulance at every venue, so that any health-related problem can be dealt with immediately,” CWAB said in a press release today.

CWAB President Mohammad Mithun said, “There have been four heart-related incidents this year. We cannot take risks with anyone involved in a cricket match. BCB needs to be aware of this and take steps.”

In April this year, security officer Ikram Chowdhury died of a heart attack during the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. A month later, former national team captain Tamim Iqbal also suffered a heart attack during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP in Savar.

Fortunately, he has recovered. Recently, another stadium worker named Romel suffered a heart attack.

CWAB hopes that the BCB will give importance to their request and ensure emergency medical services at every venue.BSS
