Dhaka, 12 Jan-The Sylhet phase of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) ended today with Rajshahi Warriors going top on the point table following their comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Dhaka Capitals at Sylhet
International Cricket Stadium.
In the last match of the Sylhet phase, Dhaka Capitals were bowled out for
just 131 in 20 overs after being tormented by pace bowlers duo Abdul Gaffar
Saqlain and Ripon Mondol who shared seven wickets between them.
Youngster Gaffar registered his career-best 4-24 while Ripon continued his
rich vein of form, finishing with 3-30.
Ripon's three wickets came in the last three balls to make him the third
bowler in this season to claim a hat-trick.
Mehedi Hasan Rana and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury earlier bagged hat-trick ahead of
him in this season.
Overall Ripon's hat-trick is the 11th instance in BPL history with Mrittunjoy
grabbing the feat twice in separate season.
Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim thereafter hammered a 43 ball-76, his first fifty
plus knock in this season, laced with seven fours and five sixes, to lead the
side to the victory in just 16.1 overs as Rajshahi reached 132-3 for a
victory.
Rajshahi ended Sylhet phase with 12 points from eight matches while
Chattogram Royals and Sylhet Titans had 10 points with Chattogram sitting at
second spot by virtue of better run rate.
Tanzid, however, scored 60 percent runs of the team's chase to make the
victory a cake-walk. His opening partner Mohammad Waseem was the next best
with 22 runs.
After electing to bat first, Dhaka made a high flying start thanks to Usman
Khan who along with his fellow opener Abdullah Al Mamun shared 54 runs for
the opening stand.
Usman dominated the partnership by scoring team-best 27 ball-41, a knock
featured with five fours and two sixes.
Gaffar broke through with the wicket of Usman and followed it up by sending
back Saif Hasan for duck in his immediate next delivery.
The two wickets in consecutive deliveries triggered a collapse that was tough
to gauge for Dhaka eventually.
Ripon Mondol who finished with 3-30 joined Gaffar to further rip through
Dhaka batting line up, forcing them losing wickets at regular intervals.
Nasir Hossain was the other notable scorer with 24 and was key in taking the
side past 100-run mark.BSS
