A young man was hacked to death in Rangpur city on Thursday night, allegedly over drug-related disputes.

The victim was identified as Rakib, 20, son of Abdus Samad of Bairagi Para area.

According to local sources, Rakib had earlier been involved in drug trading with Momin, 42, and a dispute had been ongoing between them for a long time.

Following the conflict, Rakib’s father filed a case at the Kotwali Police Station on November 14 last year against Momin and several others.

Police and locals said on Thursday evening, Momin and his associates found Rakib alone at Machuapara intersection in Tatipara and attacked him with a sharp weapon, slitting his throat before fleeing the spot, reports UNB.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Officer-in-Charge of the police station Azad Rahman.
