Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large consignment of Indian prawn fry worth around Tk 2 crore during a special drive in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Tuesday.

A special patrol team of Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) took position near the Muktijoddha Chattar along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the morning, according to a press release.

Around 7:00am, the team stopped two microbuses and a truck passing through the area and carried out a search operation.

During the search, BGB members recovered a huge quantity of Indian prawn hidden inside cartons in the vehicles using an innovative method.

The consignment was being smuggled into Bangladesh from India illegally. As the shipment had no valid documents, it was immediately seized.

Later, the seized shrimp fry were released into the Khowai River in the presence of representatives of the Habiganj District Fisheries Department, reports UNB.
