BNP leader shot in Dhaka’s Mirpur, suspect held with firearm
A local leader of the Swechhasebak Dal was shot and injured in the capital's Mirpur-10 area on Tuesday night.
The injured, Saiful Islam Siju, 40, joint convener of Mirpur Thana Swechhasebak Dal, sustained bullet wounds to his waist and both legs, said Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station Md Hafizur Rahman .
Saidul, a neighbour who took Siju to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the victim was standing in front of his office on Munshi Bari Road when a group of three to five men, allegedly led by Zakir Hossain Shanto, 27, opened fire indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured around 9:15 pm.
Locals chased the attackers as they attempted to escape and managed to catch one of them , Shanto Bhuiyan, with a firearm, reports UNB.
He was handed over to Mirpur Model Police Station.
Police said the shooting stemmed from previous enmity.
Additional security measures have been taken in the area, the OC said.
