Man held with gold bars worth Tk 1.10cr in Jashore
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with five gold bars worth approximately Taka 1.10 crore during a drive on the Jashore-Benapole highway early this morning.
The arrestee was identified as Md. Faruk, 30.
Based on information, an operation was conducted around 2.30 am based on confidential information. BGB personnel held Faruk in front of Dargah Filling Station on the Jashore-Benapole highway, according to Lieutenant Colonel Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, Commanding Officer of Jashore BGB-49 Battalion,
During a search, BGB members recovered five gold bars weighing a total of 529.64 grams, which had been concealed on his body using a special method. They also seized two mobile phones and Taka 1,655 in cash.
In preliminary interrogation, Faruk reportedly admitted that he was carrying the gold bars with the intention of smuggling them to India through the Benapole border, reports BSS.
BGB officials said a case has been filed against the accused, later handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.
