559 held in 24hrs across Dhaka

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 559 people and filed 44 cases during its regular anti-crime operations across the capital over the past 24 hours.


According to a DMP press release, the arrests were made during operations conducted in different parts of Dhaka, targeting various offences and involving the recovery of firearms, ammunition, drugs and other suspected criminal materials.

The seizures included three foreign-made pistols, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, a toy pistol, two switchblades, a knife and a sharp blade.

Police also recovered 17 mobile phones, 510 grams of cannabis, 3,710 yaba tablets, 100 packets of heroin, 15 bottles of locally produced alcohol, one litre of foreign liquor and 2,700 taka in cash.

The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests at 118, followed by Gulshan with 105 and Wari with 87. Tejgaon accounted for 79 arrests, while Motijheel made 65, Lalbagh 33, Ramna 32, Uttara 37 and the Detective Branch three.

The DMP said legal proceedings against those arrested were under way.

The latest operation comes as authorities have stepped up security and law-enforcement activities across Dhaka ahead of August 15, with police maintaining heightened vigilance to preserve public safety and order, reports BSS.
