The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday again asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit by April 10 the probe report of the case filed against former lawmaker MA Awal and 14 others in connection with the murder of trader Md Shahinuddin in 2021.

The PBI has so far taken 10 dates to complete the probe into the case. The trader was killed in front of his seven-year-old son in broad daylight in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on May 16, 2021.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tariqul Islam passed the order after Md Monir Hossain, an Inspector of PBI and also the Investigation Officer of the case, could not submit the report by on the day.

On May 12 last year, another Dhaka court ordered PBI to conduct further investigation after Aklima Begum, mother of the victim, filed a no-confidence petition, rejecting the probe report of the case.

After investigation for about nine months, Syed Iftekhar Hossain, Investigation Officer and also an Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, submitted a charge sheet to the CMM Court of Dhaka on February 14, stating that the trader was killed upon the instruction of Awal, former lawmaker from Laxmipur-1 constituency.

Of the accused, Awal and 12 others are now on bail while two others- Md Murad Hossain and Tariqul Islam Imon are in the jail custody.

The IO had dropped names of 13 accused from the charges, saying that their involvement was not found during the investigation. – Special Correspondent
