A tribunal in Dhaka has framed charges against Bangladesh national team cricketer Al-Amin Hossain in a case filed on charge of torturing his wife Ishrat Jahan and demanding dowry from her.
As a result of this, trial in the case has formally begun against Al-Amin.
Judge Mafroza Parvin of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 on Sunday (March 5) framed charges against Al-Amin, dismissing the petition submitted by his lawyer for discharging him from the charges of the case.
The court fixed April 9 for taking testimony in the case.
Earlier on February 2, police submitted a chargesheet against Bangladesh national team cricketer Al-Amin Hossain in the case.
Inspector Sohel Rana of Mirpur Model Thana submitted the chargesheet to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ataullah.
According to the case statement, Ishrat and Al-Amin married on December 26, 2012. The couple has two sons. Ishrat says Al-Amin does not contact her and their children for extended periods and does not pay for their sustenance either. On August 25, Al-Amin allegedly came home around 10:30 pm and demanded Tk 20 lakh as a dowry.
On September 1 in 2022, Ishrat lodged a complaint with Mirpur Model police against him over torturing her for dowry. Later, police registered a case.
