Bogura judge withdrawn for forcing students’ guardians to beg by touching her feet

The judicial jurisdiction of a judge of Bogura district and sessions judge court-3 on Thursday was taken away after the accused allegedly forced guardians of two students of Bogura Government Girls High School to beg by touching her feet.

Md Golam Rabbani, registrar of the Supreme Court (SC), said Judge Rubaya Yeasmin was withdrawn from Bogura and attached to the Ministry of Law following the directive of the chief justice.

A gazette notification, signed by the SC’s Deputy Registrar (admin and justice) Md Mizanur Rahman, was issued in this regard on Thursday.

According to the school rules, each student has to clean the classroom by turns.

On March 20, the accused judge’s daughter Jara, an eighth grader of the school’s Gha section, denied sweeping the classroom with other girls as a routine.

The girl allegedly locked into an altercation with her classmates over the matter and uploaded a Facebook post terming her fellow students as “girls living in a slum” on that night.

“You (classmates) are girls from slums. My mother is a government employee, ask your mothers to be judge like my mother,” the Facebook post said. Four girls reacted to the post on social media and took screenshots.

They also shared the screenshots on social media which drew a huge criticism later.

On March 21, the judge went to the school and asked the headmistress Rabeya Khatun to call guardians of the four girls.

Responding to the call, the guardians came to the school around 11:00am while the judge threatened them to implicate along with their children in cases under the Digital Security Act.

At one stage, two of the guardians were forced to beg pardon by touching her feet, causing anger among the students and the guardians over the matter.

As the news of the humiliation spread, the institution’s students blocked a road in front of the school two times protesting against the incident.

Later, the students left the road after the district’s Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam assured them of taking actions in this regard.

A three-member committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Nilufa Yeasmin was formed to probe the matter, reports UNB.
