Six held with 63-kg hemp, Yaba pills in B'baria

Six people were held in separate drives alleged drug peddlers along with a total of 63 kilograms of hemp and 1,600 pieces of Yaba from Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria .



Police in separate drives arrested six alleged drug peddlers along with a total of 63 kilograms of hemp and 1,600 pieces of Yaba from Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Saturday morning.

The arrested are Mohammad Ali, 40, hailed from Kishoreganj district, Md Saiful Islam, 34, of Sunamganj district, Zahidul Haque, 26, and Md Rakib Molla, both from Narsingdi district, Sushil, 55, of Gazipur district and Khairul Islam, 43, from Joypurhat district.

Ashuganj Police Station officer-in-charge Nahid Ahmmed said based on secret information, police set check-posts in several areas on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. During the drives, police arrested Mohammad Ali and Saiful along with 1,600 Yaba pills while Sushil was arrested along with 23 kilograms of hemp and at around 8.45am, they also arrested Khairul along with two kilograms of hemp.

Besides, on early Saturday, police arrested Zahidul and Rakib red handed along with 38 kilograms of hemp while they were trying to smuggle the drugs, he said.

Several cases were filed with the police station against the arrested in these regards, the OC added.
