A Dhaka Monday today sentenced one Md Hridoy to death for killing Tajul Islam Akon, 40, a pharmacy owner, in the capital’s Shanir Akhra area in 2020.
Judge Khandaker ATM Tofayel of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-14 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict and sent him to the prison with conviction warrant.
Victim Tajul Islam, son of Abdul Malek Akon from Mehendiganj, Barishal, used to live in Haji Mosjid area of Shanir Akhra and he used to run a pharmacy there.
According to the case document, on July 19 of 2020, Tajul returned home after closing his shop at around 1.30pm and saw the lock of his home broken. When he entered, saw Hridoy was stealing valuables from his home. As he grabbed Hridoy and started screaming, the thief stabbed him indiscriminately to get away.
Neighbours managed to catch the thief and rushed Tajul to nearby hospital, where the attending physicians declared him dead.
Tajul’s brother Nurul Islam filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station. The court on March 20, last year, framed charges against the lone accused.
The court came up with the verdict examining 15 out of 17 witnesses. - Special Correspondent
