Patuakhali: There has been a sudden increase in the problem of thieves in the Kalapara police station area of Patuakhali. Every night some businesses or homes are being stolen.

Incidents like returning stolen goods are also happening. But even then, the locals including the businessmen are angry because the local public representatives and the police have not taken appropriate steps to prevent the theft. Therefore, to prevent theft, the locals held a procession in the tall house of Banati Bazar of Lalua Union of the upazila on Sunday last afternoon. In this, the local public, including about a hundred business shops, closed by taking part.

Ruble Hawladar, Chairman of Lalua Bazaar Committee presided over the procession organized to prevent theft. Lalua Union Awami League President Md. Tariqul Islam Khan, senior vice president Kashem Howlader, General Secretary Forkan Peyada, Office Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shanti Fakir, Senior Vice President of Union Jubo League. Abdul Haque Mridha among others also spoke in the procession.

Meanwhile, the speakers requested effective action from the Dhana police administration to prevent serial theft.

It is to be noted that there have been incidents of theft in more than half a hundred business establishments including houses already occupied in Banati Bazar of Lalua Union, businessmen said. - Gofran Biswas Palash
