Police recovered the body of a housewife with severed ears and nose from a betel leaf orchard at Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenidah district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Salma Khatun, 27, wife of Tarikul Islam, a resident of Gurpara village under the upazila.

According to the deceased's family members, Salma went missing on Thursday evening. Later, locals spotted the body of Salma with severed nose and ears in Tarikul's betel leaf orchard and informed police.

Kotchandpur Police Station duty-officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mahmuda said being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
