12 men, women traficked to India return home

The Indian government sent them to Bangladesh on Tuesday (February 6) with the help of Bangladesh assistant high commission in Tripura.



Twelve Bangladesh nationals who were trafficked to India illegally have been repatriated to the country after serving jail terms.

The Indian government sent them to Bangladesh on Tuesday (February 6) with the help of Bangladesh assistant high commission in Tripura. They comprised of six men and six women.

On completion of the all the formalities of documents, Bangladesh's assistant high commissioner to Tripura Arif Mohammad handed over them to Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rabeya Akter at the zero point of Akhaura-Agartala immigration border on Tuesday afternoon.

The trafficked victims said they went India through the border illegally being allured by brokers of lucrative jobs. Then the brokers fled to the country leaving them behind. Later, the Indian law enforcing agency personnel arrested them at different times and sent them to jails.

Bangladesh's assistant high commissioner to Tripura Arif Mohammad said 12 Bangladesh nationals were repatriated. They trespassed into India through border illegally with the help of brokers who allured them of lucrative jobs. Later, they were detained by the Indian law enforcing agencies. Then they were handed over to their relatives on completion of formalities at the high levels of two countries.

Assistant High Commission's first secretary Md Rezaul Huque Chowdhury, first secretary Md Al Amin, Akhaura International Immigration OC Hasan Ahmed Bhuiyan, Agartala Integrated Checkpost manager Debashish Nandi and BRAC Migration Programme's deputy manager Shaila Sharmin were present.
