Highest security measures taken marking Amar Ekushey

DMP) has taken the highest security measures in and around the Central Shaheed Minar marking the Shaheed Dibos and International Mother Language Day.



 Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken the highest security measures in and around the Central Shaheed Minar marking the Shaheed Dibos and International Mother Language Day' to be observed on Monday.

 "There is no security threat this year marking the Amar Ekushey. Nevertheless, special security measures have been taken on the occasion," DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam told journalists after inspecting the security measures taken in and around the Shaheed Minar marking the day.

Along with the police personnel in uniform, plain-clothes policemen, teams of bomb disposal unit intelligence agencies, RAB and SWAT also will be deployed in the area to ensure the security for paying homage to the language martyrs smoothly, he said.

Police checkposts will be set up on each roads traditionally approached to the Shaheed Minar while the areas inside and outside the checkposts will remain under surveillance through CCTVs, DMP chief added.

All, who will come to pay their tributes to language heroes at the Shaheed Minar, have to come through security check, Shafiqul said, adding that archways and hand metal detectors will be used for security check. However, a search drive will begin tonight in all the areas, messes, residential halls and important places surrounding the Central Shaheed Minar and Dhaka University, so that no miscreant can carry out any destructive activities there, the DMP chief said.

The entire area also will be searched by SWAT team, Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad while Special Branch (SB) will also conduct a separate search drive in the area, he added.

Shafiqul called upon all, who will come to the Shaheed Minar, to follow the health guidelines imposed by the government and the Dhaka University authority, considering the Covid-19 situation.Noting that no one will be allowed to carry any bag during paying homage, he also urged everyone to come to the Shaheed Minar through proper ways instead of opposite ways to avert any kind of disorder.Dhaka University Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (admin) Mir Rezaul Alam, Additional Police Commissioner (crime and operations) Krishna Pada Ray, Additional Police Commissioner (detective) AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional Police Commissioner (traffic) Md Munibur Rahman and Additional Police Commissioner (counter terrorism and transnational crime) Md Asaduzzaman were present on the occasion, among others.According to the DMP officials, the movement of vehicles and public will be controlled on the roads approached to Dhaka University by putting with barricades at 12 points.

The points are: Katabon Crossing, Shahbagh Crossing, Nilkhet Crossing, TSC Crossing, Doel Chattar Crossing, High Court Crossing, Shahidullah Hall Crossing, Romana Crossing, Fuller Road Crossing, Palashi Crossing, Bakshi Bazar Crossing and Chankharpool Crossing.

The people will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar through Palashi Crossing-Jagannat Hall Crossing and exit through Shaheed Minar-Romana Crossing- Doel Chattar.

However, the people will not be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar through Bakshi Bazar-Jagannath Hall Crossing Road, Chankharpool-Romana Chattar Crossing Road, TSC- Shivbari Junction Crossing Road and Vice Chancellor's Building-Sculpture Crossing Road.

Vehicles of VVIPs, VIPs and foreign diplomats will be parked on Dhaka University (DU) Playground (gymnasium) while vehicles of law enforcement agencies on DU Annex Building ground, vehicles of commoners will be parked along Nilkhet, Palashi and Dhakeshwari roads.
