An eight-month-old girl, abducted during a robbery in Dhaka's Azimpur area on Friday, has been safely rescued by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mohammadpur early Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, RAB personnel tracked down the baby and rescued her in a raid on a Mohammadpur location, a source at the RAB headquarters confirmed. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the crime.

The robbery occurred on Friday morning when two men, posing as relatives of a tenant, entered a flat in the Medical Staff Quarters of Azimpur. They held the tenant, Farzana Akhter, hostage while looting valuables, including Tk 1.5 lakh in cash and four tolas of gold ornaments. In their escape, the robbers also abducted Farzana’s infant daughter.

Farzana, an employee of the Ministry of Home Affairs, lives in the flat with her husband and child. The suspects fled the scene after the robbery, but swift action by RAB led to the baby’s safe return.
