A brazen robbery on a moving passenger bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar has left several passengers injured, including one who was critically stabbed, authorities confirmed yesterday (20 December).

The incident occurred on a Nabinagar-bound bus operated by Welcome Paribahan. According to Sub-Inspector Alok Kumar Dey of Ashulia Police Station, the robbers boarded the bus in the Genda area and carried out the crime before disembarking near the gate adjacent to MH Hall of Jahangirnagar University.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed with sharp weapons, snatched cash, mobile phones, and ornaments from the passengers.

Md Shamim Hossain, one of the passengers, sustained serious injuries after being stabbed multiple times. Dr. Hassan Mahbub, an on-duty physician at the emergency department of Enam Medical College Hospital, said Shamim suffered stab wounds to his chest and other parts of his body and is currently undergoing treatment.

In addition to Shamim, other passengers were reportedly beaten during the robbery. However, specific details about their injuries remain unavailable.

Harun Or Rashid, another passenger, recounted the harrowing ordeal: "After the bus crossed the Savar Radio Colony area around 6:30pm, three youths armed with sharp weapons suddenly took control of the bus. They first stabbed a passenger sitting at the front before looting money and belongings from everyone on board. The robbers then fled the scene."

Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits. The incident has raised concerns over passenger safety on public transport in the area.
