Two arrested in connection with attack on Faruk Hasan

Dhaka, 6 Jan -Shahbagh police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault on Faruk Hasan, spokesperson of the Gono Odhikar Parishad. The arrests were made on Sunday night at the National Institute of Ophthalmology in Dhaka.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Korban Sheikh, also known as Hillol, aged 35, and Md Sharif, aged 27.

The attack took place on Saturday during a public event organized by the National Revolutionary Council at the Central Shaheed Minar. Faruk Hasan, who was addressing the gathering, was allegedly assaulted during his speech.

In the aftermath, Faruk went live on Facebook, claiming that members of Chhatra Dal were behind the attack.

According to Shahbagh Police Inspector (Investigation) Asaduzzaman, the two accused were found receiving medical treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology. They had been implicated in a case filed over the attack on Faruk, who also serves as the senior vice-president of Gono Odhikar Parishad.

Acting on a tip-off, the police took swift action to apprehend the suspects from the hospital.
