Dhaka, 11 Jan - Members of the Detectives Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 24 kilogrammes of cannabis along with a truck used for transportation during a raid in Dhaka’s Farmgate early Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as Md. Bashir Hasan, 19, and Md. Saiful Islam, 20. Acting on a tip-off, a DB team of DMP’s Tejgaon Division conducted the operation around 4:25 am, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the DMP, Talebur Rahman.
He said that the suspects were found with a truck near the Karwan Bazar-Airport-bound road, where they were preparing to sell cannabis.
When the suspects noticed the detectives’ presence, they attempted to flee but were arrested. The police recovered the cannabis and seized the truck, which was used for transportation, the DC added.
During primary interrogation it was revealed that the two had been collecting and distributing cannabis and other illegal drugs to dealers in areas such as Farmgate and Karwan Bazar for an extended period.
They confessed to storing the cannabis for sale, DC Talebur also said.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed at Tejgaon Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway regarding the matter.
