Feni journalist attacked over ‘reports on illegal sand extraction’

Feni, 26 Feb-A journalist suffered in an attack by some criminals allegedly over publishing news over  illegal sand mining near Gobindapur Silonia Madrasha in Kalidaha Union of Sadar Upazila on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Omar Faruk, the Feni correspondent for The Daily Inqilab.

Earlier, the attackers went to journalist Omar Faruk's house on Tuesday (February 25) and threatened his family members.

Witnesses said when Omar Faruk was heading towards the town, a group of criminals allegedly led by Omar Faruk alias Jamai Faruk, Sohag, Mamun, Tarek Rahid, Russel, and Kiron attacked on him near his residence, leaving him injured .

Later, locals rescued him and took him to Feni General Hospital.

Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun of Feni General Hospital said that Omar Faruk sustained injuries on his neck, head, chest, and waist.

On information, Feni Superintendent of Police Md. Habibur Rahman and  Officer-in-Charge of Model Police Station Shamsuzzaman visited the hospital.

Feni Reporters Unity, Feni Press Club and Bangladesh Mofossol Journalists Forum condemned the attack.

They have demanded the immediate arrest and trial of the attackers.
