Sylhet, 26 Feb-Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam on Wednesday blocked Cumilla-Sylhet highway demanding withdrawal of the cases filed against their leaders.

The leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam under the banner of Alem-Ulama and Touhidi Janata took to the street around Kautoli intersection around 10 am, disrupting vehicular movement.

They said that a number of false cases were filed against the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam during the ousted Awami League government’s tenure.

They also threatened to continue protests until the withdrawal of the cases.

Vehicular movement normalised after 1 pm after police intervention.
