The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against British lawmaker Tulip Siddiq, accusing her of illegally acquiring a luxury apartment in Dhaka’s upscale Gulshan area without any financial transaction.
Tulip, a member of the UK Parliament and niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is alleged to have received the apartment from real estate developer Eastern Housing Limited as an unlawful benefit, according to the case statement.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development to reporters this afternoon, stating that the commission has found credible evidence suggesting that the property was transferred to Tulip without payment, in violation of anti-graft laws.
Two former legal officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk)—Shah Md Khosruzzaman and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain—have also been named as co-accused in the case. They are believed to have played a role in facilitating the illegal handover of the flat by misusing their official positions.
“The investigation revealed that the flat was handed over bypassing legal procedures, and no monetary transaction was recorded,” said Akhtar Hossain.
However, the ACC did not include two key individuals—former Rajuk legal adviser Md Selim and Eastern Housing Limited chairman Zahirul Islam—as accused, as both are deceased. Md Selim, notably, was the brother of late home and health minister Mohammad Nasim.
The case marks a high-profile addition to the ACC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on corruption involving public officials and influential individuals, both at home and abroad. ACC officials said further investigations are underway and additional charges may be filed depending on the findings.
Tulip Siddiq, who represents Hampstead and Kilburn in the British Parliament, has not yet made any public comment on the case.
