Mitford Murder Case to Be Tried Under Speedy Trial Tribunal

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has assured that the brutal murder of a scrap metal trader in Dhaka’s Mitford area will be tried swiftly under the Speedy Trial Tribunal.

“The government is committed to ensuring a speedy trial for the Mitford murder. The perpetrators will be brought to justice with exemplary punishment,” he said in a post on his verified Facebook page.

He informed that five suspects have already been arrested, and the police are conducting the investigation with the utmost priority.

Dr Nazrul stated that the case will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal for immediate proceedings under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002.

The incident occurred on 9 July, when Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, a 39-year-old scrap metal trader, was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital.
