A 30-year-old woman was found dead at her house at Shamim Sarani in Shewrapara area of the capital early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Syeda Tahmin Keya, wife of Sifat Ali of the area.

According to police, Keya was found unconscious at her home around 12:30 am and was later taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at about 3:30 am.

Syed Abdullah Al Mamun, Keya’s father, said his daughter reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan due to a family dispute.

“We have come to know that my daughter tried to kill herself by hanging from the ceiling fan. Later, we rushed to her house and took Keya to BRB Hospital, from where she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as her condition worsened,” he said.

Inspector Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp, said the body was kept in the hospital’s emergency department, reports UNB.
