A man was shot dead by assailants in the Custom Ghat area of Khulna city on Monday night, in an incident that has all the hallmarks of a targeted assassination.

The deceased Imran Munshi was the son of Babul Munshi, a resident of Munshipara Second Alley. He was an active member of Khulna's top terrorist 'Grenade' Babu's gang.

Police said that Imran was walking towards Notun Bazar  at around 8:45pm. On his way, three youths on a motorcycle stopped him and shot him in the head, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, locals took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he was officially declared dead, reports UNB.

Senior police officials inspected the scene immediately after the incident.

Khulna Police Station SI Abdul Hai said that they are trying to collect CCTV footage from various places to identify and then arrest the people behind the killing.
