30 hurt in clash over local supremacy in Faridpur

Thirty people were injured in sporadic clashes between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Balia Bazar in Saltha upazila of Faridpur district on Saturday.


KM Maruf Haan Russel, officer-in-charge of Saltha Police Station, said Zahid Matubbar and Nuru Matabbar had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.

As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other in phases at Balia Bazar, leaving 30 people injured.

The clashes took place between 6 am to 12 pm on Saturday.

Hundreds of people from 20 villages including Balia Gatti, Aruakandi, Jhunakhali, Member Gatti, Bhabukdia, Songhaprotab, Gatti Kanuir, Diapara, Joyjhap, Aguldia, Morhat got involved in the clashes.

Valuables of 20 houses were looted during the melee.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation, reports UNB.
