Rival groups clash in Faridpur on Eid Day on Saturday.

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Eid day, police and local sources said.

The incident took place Saturday morning in Gopinathpur village under Hamirdi union, stemming from a long-standing dispute over local dominance.

According to witnesses, supporters of the two groups engaged in a series of chases and counter-chases from around 9:00am to 11:00am. During the clash, they used locally made weapons, including shields, spears and ramda.

Several houses, estimated between 10 and 12 were vandalised and looted during the violence.

Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Law enforcers also recovered a number of crude weapons from the spot.

Local sources said the conflict stemmed from a prolonged feud between Ismail Munshi and Chunnu Mia over establishing supremacy in the area.

Earlier, a clash between supporters of the two groups on Thursday night left at least 12 people injured.

Tension escalated again after Eid prayers on Saturday, triggering the fresh round of violence.

Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the clash broke out following Eid prayers over the dominance dispute.

He said several houses were vandalised and looted, and a number of people were injured.

“Police have brought the situation under control, and legal action is underway,” the OC added. - UNB
