Rushnaf Wadud
Poet, lyricist, musician and creative communications professional Rushnaf Wadud died on Monday, 12 October, aged 38, after a long battle with cancer. He left the world, leaving behind a body of work spanning Bangladesh’s independent music scene, radio and creative communications.
Rushnaf was a man whose presence stayed with you long after he left the room. To know him was to experience an intersection of rare kindness, and a deeply creative spirit. He possessed that beautiful, uncommon gift of instant connection—whoever met him remembered him, drawn in by his friendly nature and the genuine warmth he extended to everyone around him. His early life spent at Chittagong with his parents and yonger brother and sister.
His education spanned across several institutions, completing his early schooling at St. Mary’s School in Chittagong, Bangladesh (Class of 1996) and The Assam Valley School (Class of 2005), before pursuing higher education at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi (Class of 2011). This background shaped his subsequent professional path.
Rushnaf began his journey in journalism in India, capturing stories with the sharp eye of an observer and the soul of a writer. When he later moved to Dhaka, he brought that immense depth into the creative, ideation, and communication sectors. As a communication specialist, his dedication to his craft was unwavering; he poured his intellect and heart into his professional roles.
During his time with Radio Shadhin in Dhaka, he brought his distinct creative ideas to the airwaves, contributing his talents behind the scenes to help structure programming, and develop creative concepts to the station's daily broadcasts. Rushnaf was the lead vocalist of Blunderware and worked with The Attempted, contributing to songs including Afim Chash, Ei Bikele and O Moushumi.
He also appeared in the 2019 anthology film Iti, Tomar-i Dhaka. Beyond his professional achievements, Rushnaf was, at his core, a poet. His dedication, his kindness, and his artistic spirit leave a lasting legacy in our workplace and our hearts. Rushnaf Wadud has left us creating a massive void that no one and nothing ever can fill up.
His funeral arrangements will commence tomorrow 14thOctober, Wednesday, at the Gulshan Azad Mosque immediately following the Fajr prayer. Following the completion of the Janaza, the procession will move to his family home in Banani. After that he will be taken to Chittagong (Rangunia) for his burial and last Janaza.
