Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus inaugurates the Navy and Air Force Selection Board-2025 at the Navy Headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday formally inaugurated the ‘Navy and Air Force Selection Board-2025’ at the Navy Headquarters in Dhaka, initiating the process of promoting officers to higher ranks in both forces.

The selection board will consider eligible officers for promotion from Navy Captain to Commodore, Commander to Captain, and Lieutenant Commander to Commander. Similarly, in the Air Force, officers will be promoted from Group Captain to Air Commodore, Wing Commander to Group Captain, and Squadron Leader to Wing Commander.

Comprised of senior policy-level military officers, the board will select qualified candidates for future leadership roles in the two forces, subject to government approval.

The inauguration ceremony began with a minute of silence in memory of those who perished in the recent tragic plane crash near Milestone School and College.

In his speech, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, the brave freedom fighters from all walks of life, and those who sacrificed their lives during the July–August 2024 mass uprising. He highlighted the Navy and Air Force’s heroic roles throughout the nation’s history and commended their spontaneous support in times of national crises, natural disasters, and emergencies.

He especially praised the two forces for their critical role during the recent student uprising, their support in maintaining law and order, and their contributions to national development.

Prof Yunus gave directives on ensuring economic progress through the sustainable use of marine resources, acknowledging the Navy’s role in managing the deep sea port and shaping the future of the country’s blue economy. He also referenced the establishment of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA) and ongoing efforts to strengthen the economic framework of Bangladesh.

Emphasising the modernisation of the Navy and Air Force, he spoke of their duty not only to protect the country but also to contribute to sectors such as education and disaster management. He urged the selection board to identify officers who are patriotic, skilled, professional, honest, humane, and morally upright to lead the forces.

On his arrival, Prof Yunus was received by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Both service chiefs expressed their gratitude to the Chief Adviser for his presence and active involvement, saying it has boosted morale across the forces.

They reaffirmed their commitment to building well-equipped, skilled, and principled leadership under his guidance, with a strong emphasis on patriotism, professionalism, and humanitarian values.

Senior military and civil officials also attended the event. The programme concluded with the Chief Adviser planting a sapling on the Navy Headquarters premises, wishing continued prosperity for the Navy, Air Force, and the nation.
