
The issues came up when Oman Ambassador to Bangladesh Jamil Haji Ismail Al Balushi paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office here, said a foreign ministry's press release here.
During the meeting, the state minister highly appreciated the constructive role of the Omani leadership in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region.
The Omani envoy conveyed his government's felicitations to the BNP-led government of Bangladesh on its victory in the 13th parliamentary election.
The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture and sports.
Appreciating the government of Oman for hosting a large Bangladeshi community, Shama reiterated Bangladesh's firm stance against illegal migration. She also stressed the government's priority to send skilled and semi-skilled workers abroad so that they can contribute more effectively to the economies of both host countries and Bangladesh.
The state minister also expressed appreciation for Oman's support for Bangladesh's candidature in the election for the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, reports BSS.
