PM Tarique Rahman Likely To Visit US For UNGA In September

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit the United States in September to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with a possible visit to San Francisco, according to diplomatic and party sources.
The proposed visit is expected to include bilateral meetings with several heads of state and government, as well as engagements with Bangladeshi expatriates in the United States.
The 81st UNGA session will be presided over by Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, who has been elected president of the General Assembly. Tarique Rahman is expected to address the Assembly during the session.
According to the sources, the prime minister is likely to arrive in New York on September 21, while his address to the General Assembly is tentatively scheduled for September 24.
A civic reception is also expected to be organised in New York on September 25 following his official engagements.
Tarique Rahman may then travel to San Francisco from September 26 to 28 to attend a special programme. Preparations for the possible visit have already begun in California.
The San Francisco Bay Area, a major global technology and innovation hub, is home to a large Bangladeshi community, including entrepreneurs, engineers and technology professionals.
Sources said the proposed visit would seek to strengthen engagement with Bangladeshi professionals in the technology sector and encourage greater involvement in Bangladesh's economic development and innovation ecosystem.
California BNP President Badrul Alam Chowdhury Shiplu said party leaders and supporters were enthusiastic about the prime minister's prospective visit.
He said preparations were already under way and expressed hope that the programme would strengthen ties between Bangladesh and Bangladeshi professionals and entrepreneurs in the United States.
The overall US tour is expected to last eight to 10 days, although officials are still finalising the itinerary and other arrangements.
