India on Friday withdrew an earlier statement that had indicated preparations were underway at Rashtrapati Bhavan for a possible visit by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

In an afternoon press release, India's President's Secretariat had said the Change of Guard Ceremony at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan would not be held on Saturday (22 August) due to a full rehearsal for the ceremonial welcome of the Bangladesh prime minister.

The statement was published by India's Press Information Bureau at around 2:25pm but was later withdrawn.

The development comes as Dhaka and New Delhi continue discussions over Tarique Rahman's proposed visit to India.

No immediate explanation was given for the withdrawal of the statement.
